Nadine Haruni is the award-winning author of THE HAT DIARIES fantasy adventure series and the Freeda the Frog children’s books. Nadine has been scheduling school author visits with HSA/ PTA Chairs, Librarians, Teachers, and School administrators all over the tri-state area.
In these visits, she is trying to reach children from preschoolers to high schoolers, to give them some writing tips and tricks, and to get them as excited about reading and writing as she is.
THE HAT DIARIES trilogy is written for teens and adults, expanding readers’ imaginations as they enter Ryan’s secret world. In the first book in the series, THE HAT DIARIES The Secret Life of Ryan Rigbee, readers meet Ryan Rigbee, a shaggy-haired kid still reeling from the loss of his dad, who sits alone at the lunch table at Sunken Valley Middle School to avoid being bullied. But by night, it’s another story.
The imaginary “Adventures” he takes with his dog, Shadow, suddenly transform him from an awkward teen into an adult who can handle just about anything. To make this magic happen, all he needs to do is put on a hat. Each hat he takes home whisks him into a new adrenaline-rushing role the moment he puts it on, and the lines between reality and his imagination grow increasingly blurred. As the story gradually builds toward its climax, the distinction between Ryan’s everyday life and his exciting nightly world of Adventures becomes impossible to discern. An imaginative, action-packed story that follows a relatable teen as he struggles with loss, grief, bullying, loneliness, and regret, THE HAT DIARIES™ The Secret Life of Ryan Rigbee marks the start of a coming-of-age fantasy trilogy that will resonate with readers of all ages, and keep them rooting for Ryan Rigbee.

Nadine recently did a launch event at Bookends in Ridgewood, NJ, to celebrate the release of the second book in the series, THE HAT DIARIES Discover the Portal.
In this sequel, Ryan’s adrenaline-filled adventures are taken to new heights through a magical portal, where Merlo teaches Ryan some valuable life lessons.
In his excitement to bring others on adventures, he loses focus on the mysterious dangers hidden within the portal. Get ready to hold onto your hats in THE HAT DIARIES Discover the Portal!
Awarding it a 5-star review, Readers’ Favorite says it’s “… a fantastic sequel…with just as much action and adventure … This is a fun book, and although it is aimed at younger readers, it’s the perfect way for adults to escape real life, too…. A thoroughly enjoyable story, and highly recommended to any reader, no matter their age.”
The third and final installment in the series, THE HAT DIARIES Escape from the Adventure, is anticipated to be released in the fall of 2025.
The Freeda the Frog five-book series focuses on acceptance for every type of family and comforts children as they experience real-life situations. Topics covered include divorce, blended families, moving/major life changes such as changing schools, losing a pet or loved one, and the LGBTQ+ community. The main thread of all the books is to remind children that families look different, that parenting comes in many different forms and promotes tolerance and empathy for students with their peers. All of the books in the series have been leveled to align with national Common Core reading standards, received a Readers’ Favorite 5-star review, and received the Gold Mom’s Choice Award® for excellence in the family-friendly picture book category. These books are also valuable tools to help parents, educators, and school counselors/ psychologists open up a conversation about these topics in an upbeat (and non-scary) way.
Nadine frequently does author events, radio & TV interviews, podcasts, and school visits. She is also a practicing attorney, certified yoga instructor, and the proud mother of a blended family of five children.
