I saw a cartoon the other day showing a nursery class where the teacher is holding the telephone for one of the 4 year olds with the comment, “Your father needs some computer help.” Once upon a time I would have thought that was just a satirical joke. No more. I have been trying to make and edit videos for posting on Tiktok, Instagram and Facebook with no luck. My grandson has spent considerable time with me and I still can’t do it. I did one the other day but it came out purely by accident. I could not repeat it.
Keep in mind that I have graduate degrees in the sciences and math and I am an IBM trained techie and spent over 50 years in the computer business, programming, consulting, documenting, training and everything else. But I cannot edit a video properly to post and use the technique to sell my books. It’s not my age. My cognitive facilities have not been very compromised even though I’m 93. So what it it? Why should I need my grandchildren to help me?
I still do the NY Times crossword puzzles excluding Saturday which I never could do anyway. I do the math problems on facebook with very little problem. I even do the Sports Edition of Connections in the Times, succeeding occasionally. I learn new music on the piano and even memorize some of the pieces. So why can’t I edit a video? If you have an answer that’s not wiseass, I’d love to hear from you.
