Steven Serna, Esq.

Immigrants so much in the news now, are getting a bad rap. Years ago the doors were open. Speaking about making America great, well this is how it all began. They came from all over to start a better life, a dream of a life for all, but especially for the children.

They came, as people are coming today. to save their lives. They ran from racism, poverty and even death. They came from all over, Ireland, Italy, Russia, Ukraine, Hungry, Spain, South America – a tower of babble, different languages, food, customs, and religions. It was a multitude of promises for them but especially for this hopefully, once great, nation.

The children, going to school. learning English, became American. The parents, in most cases, did not learn English. They lived among their own kind and never insinuated themselves into our culture. They were only physically here. This is true to this day.

Attorney Steven Serna’s parents moved to the States from Colombia, South America in the 70’s. His mother was a seamstress, his dad a baker. They came to improve their lives. His mom, typically, never learned English, his father very little. Growing up, Steven had a great interest in history. The important men, early in America’s past, all seemed to have law degrees, no matter what they actually decided to do in their lives. After graduating from high school, Steven attended Rutgers University. After graduation, with very little preparation, he applied to local law schools. He was wait-listed in some and rejected by others. Steven realized preparation was key and so after two years of due diligence, he applied to, and and was accepted to Cardozo Law School, part of Yeshiva University.

Steven is the first in his family to have attended college and beyond. He has a passion for the law, truly loves what he does. His practice consists mostly of bankruptcy law and real estate in all their aspects. Both of these are satisfying and life changing areas. Often his clients are deep in a hole financially and helping them gain their life back is rewarding beyond measure. Helping people into a new home, saving their home, is equally satisfying. Steven Serna is a lucky guy, and his clients are lucky, because he cares deeply about them. You know what they say, “If you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life.” This is the vibe I got from Steven. It is rare. I know very few who love their jobs.

Steven is an eclectic guy. He is as passionate about his spare time activities as he is about his work. He is an avid tennis player, and has ben playing since he was a preteen, Recently he discovered pickleball and sort of left tennis behind. He plays in a facility in Fair Lawn and at local Hudson County parks, and plays three or four times a week. Another passion is snowboarding . To quote him, “It is just so much fun.” Steven and his wife enjoy socializing and trying new restaurants in Bergen County The latest love of both their lives is their two year old daughter. They adore taking her with them wherever they go and watching her learning new things. Steven Serna has a lot of’ ‘wonderful’ in his life .
